Today's Reading From Genesis 37
Genesis 37 with Commentaries, verse by verse
We now turn to the life of Joseph (Genesis 37-50).
(v. 1-11)
God spoke to Jospeh in dreams. Remember that Joseph was the second youngest son of Jacob born from the favorite wife. Jacob showed favoritism, and naturally Joseph got presumptous. Howver in this human situation God spoke to Joseph through dreams, and his brothers hated him. These dreams would not be fulfilled until several years later.
Joseph was hated by hos brothers so much that they sold him to the Midianites instead of killing him. Joseph nor his brothers did not see the hand of God in this evil situation, but God had something in mind.

Genesis 36 deals with the genealogy of Esau. Why because the Edomites played a significant role later in the life of the nation of Israel. We should be reminded again that Esau did not choose the way to God like Jacob, and that influenced his descendants.

Jacob meets Esau (v. 1-20). This was a moment in Jabob's life that he was not looking forward to. This was his brother who he stole the birthright from, he was not quite sure what would happen to him. Now he was Israel, reborn in God's grace. Notice how he arranged to place his wives and children, in order to meet Esau. He had to face the music, so to speak, with God's grace.

Jacob wrestles with God (v. 22-32).
Before he met Esau, he had to face God. That night Esau wrestled with God. To show you the kind of person Esau was, he wrestled with God the whole night but did not and could not win. He said to God that he would not leave intil he blessed him (v. 26). God asked him the question that He asks each one of us. What is your name? Who are you? When we come face to face with that and realize who we are, then God can radically change us (2 Cor. 5.17)
